From Wikipedia:
"Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change."
Remember Earth Hour 2009? We were told to switch off our lights for one hour to remind ourselves about the status of the Earth's worsening environment. In 2009, it was supported by over 90 cities worldwide! One of the most notable country which participated in Earth Hour was Zimbabwe, a country that is very focused on climate change.
On March 27, 2010, Zimbabweans switch off all essential lights from their homes from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm. So what is so notable about them? They continued to PERSEVERE through Earth Hour and beyond! Their lights continued to stay switched off for several hours even after Earth Hour ended. To top it up, their fans, refrigerators and other basic and essential appliances were switched off too.
Here is a picture of a typical hometown, before, during and after Earth Hour.
One happy resident was interviewed during Earth Hour:
BBC: How long has the lights been switched off?
Resident: About 15 years...
BBC: WOW!!! For about 15 minutes already!?! Thats long! You have 45 minutes more to go.
Until today, their lights are still switched off.
Save Earth. Save Yourselves.
